YADIRA, an extroverted and caring 10-year old Cuban girl, struggles to finish packing on her final day home; the sight of her suitcase, too small to carry everything her heart holds, haunts her every move. Embarking on an immigration journey alone, all she takes are the memories of her loved ones.

My capstone film is the culminating project of my trajectory in my BFA program. It is an ode to those who have gotten me through this journey, and a reflection of the types of stories I want to tell in my time as an artist. The development of this story is inspired by the stories of my family’s life in Cuba and their immigration journey. The assets and characters produced are based on anecdotes and photography from their life.

El Proyector (2023)

An experimental short film created during the developing stages of my capstone. This piece uses family archives and a story from an interview i did with my mother. While working on this story, I have had to reassemble, dismantle, and analyze random archives, photos and experiences. In a way, through the foggy lens of memory, I am trying to build a path to familiarity and home.
